Growth Gathered

A suspended soft sculpture exploring how we interact with objects around us. This form is a physical iteration of my print “Girls We Help Each other Grow” that highlights the growth that occurs in circles of women. Growth is physically represented by here by greenery, embellished vines, and stuffed leaves. Using utility materials of ripstop, duck-cloth, I sewed and embellished the soft appliqué greenery and florals to attach to the canvas around the vines.  These materials were chosen to allow the piece to remain approachable and welcoming, encouraging interaction.  In collaboration with my good friend Max Condon (BFA Fashion) we engineered a rectangular gusset band to fit the undulating curves of the form to create volume to fill, and tabs to suspend it with carabiners.
